RELEASE: Rainforest Action Network Expands Misleading Greenwashing of Primary Forest Logging

FSC is NOT rainforest safe
RAN's recent "rainforest safe" book and luxury shopping bag campaigns show they value greenwashing primary forest logging [search] and sustaining old growth timber markets more than ecological science showing without primary forest logging ban biosphere collapses. EcoInternet renews demand that RAN stops promoting primary forest logging as a false solution to rainforest loss and diminishment, and resigns from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) immediately.
Despite escalating international protest, Rainforest Action Network (RAN) continues to promote Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification of first time industrial logging of primary forests. RAN's new "Rainforest Safe Summer Reading List" [1] and "Gucci Shopping Bag" [2] campaigns falsely claim FSC certified paper products are free of rainforest destruction. In fact, most FSC products come from the first time industrial logging of primary forests or from toxic, industrial monoculture plantations which displace old forests. Virtually all of FSC's tropical timbers and fibers come from such sources.
"The world's rainforests, biodiversity, ecosystems, climate and biosphere are in a state of severe crisis and are collapsing; and the best Rainforest Action Network can do is continue lying regarding where FSC certified products come from, and shilling for primary forest books and shopping bags? As America's largest rainforest protection group, RAN raises and expends more monies on behalf of rainforests than any organization, yet continues to insist FSC logging of primary forests

You are right on the money Dr. Barry. I am working on getting E-Magazine to do a story on Paper and Forests with emphasis on the legitimacy or illegitimacy of FSC programs.

As the Greenpeace US camapigner of the time when we entered into the uncomfortable agreement with FSC certification, the greenies had to have a credible industry alternative for industry as we were hammering customers of old growth logging in BC and elsewhere. It allowed us to save the Great Bear Rainforest, but we were always uncomfortable that the certifiers could not be trusted to protect primary forests as stringently as we wished or what the planet deserves.
RAN, GP, NRDC, Sierra Club and others must of course ensure their stamp of approval for FSC doesn't lead to forest destruction. No one could be dumb enough to think that was wht these NGOs supported FSC. The pressure has GOT to be on the CERTIFIERs to make sure they don't legitimize primary forest destruction. If the ngos believce that is the case, they must pull their support.

    Hey Glen and others,
Why do you think that RAN continues to endorse primary old growth logging if the evidence shows that we should leave the ancient forests untouched?
It seems like an org like theirs should have very high values…
    Thanks

    Dear Dr. Glen Barry,
Neither you nor anyone in God's creation has rights, only He has rights! Humanity will NOT be able to destroy creation (interesting choice of words for an obvious 'non-creationist') because alas, they are not the creators.
You want to defend the Earth? Against destruction and 'evil'? What lies at the root of evil, is it not sin?
So the logical would be to eradicate sin. That is exactly what God has done through Jesus Christ! So go to Christ for the answer to your problems. Still not satisfied (I mean somehow you are not centre stage in saving the environment anymore), well, listen what God has to say about our 'wisdom':
“1Co 1:20 Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?”
    God bless,
    Gabriel Smit
